Shock and splash: gas and dark matter halo boundaries around ΛCDM galaxy clusters

چکیده

ABSTRACT Recent advances in simulations and observations of galaxy clusters suggest that there exists a physical outer boundary massive cluster-size dark matter (DM) haloes. In this work, we investigate the locations boundaries DM gas around haloes, by analysing sample 65 haloes extracted from Omega500 zoom-in hydrodynamical cosmological simulations. We show location accretion shock is offset splashback radius, contrary to prediction self-similar models. The radius larger than all definitions literature $20-100{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$. defined using steepest drop entropy pressure profiles approximately 1.89 times slope density profile, it ≈1.2 edge phase space structure. discuss implications our results for multiwavelength studies clusters.

Shallow dark matter cusps in galaxy clusters

We study the evolution of the stellar and dark matter components in a galaxy cluster of 1015 M from z = 3 to the present epoch using the high-resolution collisionless simulations of Ruszkowski & Springel. At z = 3 the dominant progenitor haloes were populated with spherical model galaxies with and without accounting for adiabatic contraction. We apply a weighting scheme which allows us to chang...

The galaxy–dark matter halo connection: which galaxy properties are correlated with the host halo mass?

We demonstrate how the properties of a galaxy depend on the mass of its host dark matter subhalo, using two independent models of galaxy formation. For the cases of stellar mass and black holemass, themedian property value displays amonotonic dependence on subhalomass. The slope of the relation changes for subhalomasses for which heating by active galactic nuclei becomes important. The median p...

Some astrophysical implications of dark matter and gas profiles in a new galaxy clusters model

The structure of the dark matter and the thermodynamical status of the hot gas in galaxy clusters is an interesting and widely discussed topic in modern astrophysics. Recently, Rasia et al. (2004) have proposed a new dynamical model for the mass density profile of clusters of galaxies as a result of a set of high resolution hydrodynamical simulations of structure formation. We investigate the l...

Galaxy disruption in a halo of dark matter.

The relics of disrupted satellite galaxies have been found around the Milky Way and Andromeda, but direct evidence of a satellite galaxy in the early stages of disruption has remained elusive. We have discovered a dwarf satellite galaxy in the process of being torn apart by gravitational tidal forces as it merges with a larger galaxy's dark matter halo. Our results illustrate the morphological ...

Dark Halo and Disk Galaxy Scaling Laws

I highlight recent progress in our understanding of the origin of disk galaxy scaling laws in a hierarchically clustering universe. Numerical simulations of galaxy formation in Cold Dark Matter (CDM) dominated universes indicate that the slope and scatter of the I-band Tully-Fisher (TF) relation are well reproduced in this model, although not, as proposed in recent work, because of the cosmolog...
